Wellcome Genome Campus

Wellcome Genome Campus

An exciting international scientific community working at the forefront of life science research

The Wellcome Genome Campus is home to some of the world’s leading research institutes and organisations, committed to delivering life-changing science with the reach, scale and imagination to solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges.

The Campus was formed around the Hinxton Hall estate, and today includes over 100 acres of research, innovation, social, and green spaces. Today’s Campus has its roots in the Human Genome Project (1990-2003), which read and recorded the complete sequence of DNA in an individual for the first time, and transformed the way we study life. One-third of the original human genome was sequenced on the Campus, at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, with the data stored and shared through the European Molecular Biology Laboratory’s European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). This pioneering work, enabled the development of countless new tools and technologies, providing insights into human health, infectious disease, and conservation and biodiversity.
